Flores Mission Trip 2017Posted in College Community on Monday, 22 May, 2017
“I learnt that you don’t need the latest iPhone or designer bag, all you need is to approach life with a positive attitude -there’s always a reason to smile, there is always hope!”
A group of 10 students from Years 10 – 12 and four staff embarked on the second MCC Flores Mission Trip during the April holidays.
Flores is a predominantly Catholic Indonesian island that experiences many Third World challenges, such as limited access to education, medical supplies and fresh water supplies in homes. One of the key goals of the trip was to build on the first Mission, held last year, with a focus not only on the provision of resources through fundraising and effort, but also on the enhancement of the partnership with local communities, particularly struggling families.
The group experienced profound differences in country, community and culture and was especially impacted by the Flores inhabitiants’ strong sense of solidarity, community spirit and a friendly, genuine and honest nature.
Thank you to the students who attended and to the College, Parish and Mandurah communities who supported them, as well as to the Flores Village Partners for their care and initiative.
