Historic title win for College surfersPosted in General School News on Friday, 15 September, 2017

April McPherson and Ruby Allen.
Two of Mandurah Catholic College’s talented surfers have entered the College’s history books after an impressive day in the water recently.
April McPherson (Year 11) and Ruby Allen (Year 9) won the State Senior Girls’ Surfing title, defeating Margaret River Senior High School for the first time since MCC entered the State competition.
The Margaret River team has not been beaten in this event for 15 years.
April and Ruby will now represent Mandurah Catholic College in the Australian Schools Titles in Sydney in December.
The dynamic duo are also Runner-up State champions in the Senior Girls’ Bodyboard event. The girls had to hit the waves more than eight times to make it into the last two competing teams in both events. An unbelievable effort and one that deserves much praise.
The Senior Boys’ Bodyboarding duo of Matt Hanks (Year 10) and Henry Gibson (Year 11) claimed the State Title in their division in enigmatic fashion, defeating Margaret River SHS and Cape Naturaliste College to win the premier body board event. Unfortunately they will not be joining their female teammates in Sydney as the National Titles do not include bodyboard events.
Congratulations to our new State title holders and to their teammates who competed on the day so successfully, finishing in second place from a field of 60 schools.
