Undermanned side finishes season with a winPosted in on Wednesday, 21 June, 2017
Junior Boys’ Football
Round 6 – MCC 11.6 (72) d Kolbe 5.1 (31)
An undermanned MCC team went to Kolbe in search of their fourth victory for the season. The players wore black armbands in memory of Chris Chandler’s passing and used the strength he showed in life as motivation to be their best!
The match began with the boys showing great endeavour and kicking the first three goals of the game. While being a little wasteful in front of goal, it was the play of small forwards, Jayden Skov and Yash Fratel who impressed by hitting the scoreboard early. MCC continued to press despite only having 16 players, taking a 7.5 to 1.0 lead at half time.
Contributions were seen from all players, but notably the backline held firm through Jed Adams and Toby Burton, and midfielders Luke Jardine, Flynn Oldfield and Jai Henare ensured MCC held a lead throughout the second half. In the last 10 minutes Kolbe put their 17th player on the field to combat the MCC onslaught but it proved to no avail with the team running out 41 point winners, 11.6 to 5.1.
A quality end to a mixed season. The boys finished 4-2 with one win coming as a result of a forfeit. While there were some exciting moments from this team, there were others that were a little disappointing, which lends itself to some inconsistency.
For those that committed to boys’ football for the term, well done and I look forward to a strong 2018.
Mr Danny Chartres
