2019 Swimming Championship SuccessPosted in Achievements,Sport on Friday, 16 August, 2019

Two students from Mandurah Catholic College recently represented Western Australia in the 2019 Swimming Championship. Sean Alcorn and Ethan O’Sullivan representing our state in the School Sport Australia National Championships in Melbourne from 30 July to 2 August, this year.

Sean won the gold medal in the 100m butterfly in a sizzling time of 1:05.54. He also won the silver medal in the 50 butterfly. To add to that he was a finalist in the 50m freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley. He also won a relay gold medal.

Sean said, “I am very proud that I won medals for Western Australia. I was excited when I won silver at the 50m butterfly and I thought I had a chance to win the gold in the 100m butterfly because I have been training so hard. I was very nervous on the blocks but I was determined. I was in 2nd at the turn but then tried as hard as I possibly could and was first to the wall.”

Sean’s mother Natalie Stevenson said of Sean’s success, “Obviously we are all very proud of him.”

Ethan said, “I did one of my best meets all round. My best interstate meet. For me my sole focus for the meet was to get more experience traveling and competing out of state. In my 100 free style I made it into a final meaning I had to re-swim it again at night. I got 5th in my 400 freestyle and 6th in my 200 freestyle, 100 percent personal best rate. All round it was a really good meet.”

Well done to Sean and Ethan!
