Boys’ Cricket – Percentage Boosting Win against Halls HeadPosted in Cricket,Sport on Thursday, 15 March, 2018

Game 4: MCC vs Halls Head

We arrived to play our final game of the round robins knowing that we needed a big win to boost our run rate and scrape into the quarterfinals. Michael Fenton won the toss and elected to bat. Nathan Howell (53) and Jackson Knight (17) went out with real intent early, with a rapid fire 32 run partnership. Nathan scoring his third 50 in four games, having now racked up an impressive 226 runs in the four game tournament.

The opening stand was followed by an 85 run partnership between Nathan Howell and Michael Fenton (27), as we moved to 2 for 115 after 12 overs. This left us an excellent platform to push for a huge score. Rhett Bazzo (29 No.) and Ethan White (25) made handy contributions as we scored 7/193 our largest score in the past 3 years at least.

The boys wanted to bowl Halls Head out as cheaply as possible to complete a percentage boosting victory. Liam Hannah (3/10) continued his fantastic round robin series ripping through the top order. He has taken 11 wickets in just four games, conceding few runs and proving a problem for all batsmen that have faced him. He was well supported by the rest of the attack and towards the end of the innings a number of the younger players were given an opportunity to shine. Ryan Bizzel the youngest member of the team (Year 7) picked up 2 for 6 from his 2 overs. Halls Head were never really in the game as they were bowled out for 65.

The percentage boosting win turned out to be absolutely critical as 5 schools finished on the same points and were only separated by run rates. Next week we will drive up to Joondalup to play against Mater Dei College in the quarterfinals a win here will get us into the final four for the second year in a row.

The application of the boys has been first class and I am very proud of the results to date.
