Mandurah Catholic College runs a Bring Your Own Apple (BYOA) Digital Learning Device (DLD) ITC Platform for all students in Years 4 – 12.

Mandurah Catholic College has always aimed to maintain its high level of educational technological advancement. Our use of educational technology has increased exponentially both by staff and students. Our continuing aim is to provide an ever-advancing level of digital learning and resources for all our students in Years 4 to 12.

Changing technologies and software updates are a never-ending task for our IT support team, who aim to ensure continuous operation within the College for our students.

IT Repairs

What if I break my DLD?
Repairs can be facilitated either at the Apple Store, or within the College by our Apple registered repairers, Winthrop Australia, who visit the College twice on a weekly basis.

Insurance and AppleCare Protection Plans
The College strongly recommends that you purchase an Apple Care+ plan for your child’s device to reduce your exposure to high repair costs in the event of damage to your Child’s device. More details can be found here iPad AppleCare+ and MacBook AppleCare+.

Furthermore in the event of loss or theft of your child’s device we strongly encourage you to insure the device or have sufficient funds available for replacement.

Mandurah Catholic College Student ICT Acceptable Use Policy

1.0 Rationale

In accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church, the practice of electronic communication must be totally transparent and reflect the highest standard of accountability and sensitivity to human rights and relationships.
This policy serves to provide guidance to students of Mandurah Catholic College on the appropriate use, privacy and access of electronic communications.

The scope of this Policy applies to all College data, including stored data and other electronic means of communication. Such services include but are not limited to email, voicemail, web portals and social media operated by the College community.

2.0 Definition

‘Information and Communication Technology (ICT)’ means the use of all computer hardware and software systems and data (including the internet and email) and telecommunication facilities that may be owned by the College or privately owned devices conveying College business whilst a student of the College.

3.0 Guidance Notes

  • Students and parents must accept the rules and regulations detailed in this document.
  • Failure to comply with the rules could mean that access is withdrawn or, in some cases, more severe action is taken, including legal action or loss of the student’s place at the College.
  • Students must take responsibility for their own actions.
  • Access is only permitted for current students.
  • Access to the Internet and Academic Network complies with the
  • Acceptable Use policy.
  • Students should not attempt to repair or maintain computer equipment and peripherals including printers, mouse, keyboard etc.
  • Students must report immediately to IT Support or Academic staff any damage to equipment or peripherals.
  • Students must complete the appropriate allocation form prior to using College equipment within a Learning Space.
  • The College reserves the right to monitor and restrict all digital activity occurring within the College grounds.

4.0 Acceptable Use

Subject to the following paragraphs, students may use the ICT facilities within the College for the purposes of data processing, communications, research and other applications of Information and Communication Technology that genuinely support the educational process in the College.

Examples of unacceptable use which could result in legal action and/or loss of place at the College:

  • Use of the College’s Internet or equipment for any illegal purpose.
  • The acquisition, creation or transmission of any offensive, obscene or indecent images, data or other material, or any data capable of being resolved into obscene or indecent images or material.
  • The introduction of computer “viruses”, “Trojans” or “worms” etc, with the intention of causing disruption or damage to:
    – College’s equipment or data.
    – Third party equipment or data.
  • Removal or attempted removal of College management or security protocols.

Examples of unacceptable use which could mean access is withdrawn:

  •  Use of impolite or abusive language.
  • Allowing another person use of personal account and password.
  • Accessing chat sites and messaging sites including SMS messaging.
  • Playing or downloading the following:
    – Computer games.
    – Music files including streaming audio.
    – Video files including streaming video.
    – Programs and executable files.
    – Installing unauthorised applications.

This list is by no means exhaustive and is given as a guide. The College will determine the category and severity of any other misuse.

Parental Obligations - Private Ownership

From the Parent Student Agreement – Private Ownership

The parent will:

1.1 Arrange for the DLD to be insured against loss or damage as a result of theft or accidental damage.
1.2 Facilitate advanced payment for any repairs or replacement of the DLD when required.
1.3 Ensure that the student complies with this agreement, the College’s ‘ICT Acceptable Use Policy’ and ‘Cyber Safety Declaration’ plus amendments from time to time as posted on the College website.
1.4 Be responsible for the duplication (back-up) of all data stored upon the DLD. The College is therefore not responsible for loss of data should technical or procedural failures occur.
1.5 Allow access to and application installation on the DLD for the purposes of managing, upgrading, repairing or for the DLDs contents to be inspected by the College at any time.
1.6 Supply an appropriate protective hard-sided carry bag and ensure the student transports the DLD within it at all times outside of the home and whilst at the College.
1.7 Ensure the DLD is fully charged to facilitate a day’s learning.
1.8 Be responsible for the control of their students devices when not in the College.
