Earth Science WAPosted in Secondary,STEAM on Thursday, 21 November, 2019

Eating and learning at the same time? In Science no less. Year 9 students were presently surprised by a Science Incursion on Earth Science.

The students used actual Mars Bars to model tectonic plate movements in the Earth’s crust. The Earth Science WA visit, conducted by Fiona Mochrie, used the Mars bars to show the three main types of plate movement, diverge, converge and transform plate boundaries.

Fiona also enthralled the students with oil and tomato sauce to show convection currents and how volcanoes erupt.

I would not be surprised if parents pantries were not raided for these two basic commodities so the students could replicate what they saw during class, at home.
