Goodwill (and gifts!) to allPosted in College Community on Friday, 7 December, 2018

Hundreds of items donated to brighten Christmas Day for the less fortunate people in the local community were handed over to St Vincent De Paul yesterday.

The College community’s generosity and genuine Christmas spirit now means that scores of families will have a little more to enjoy on Christmas Day. Students were asked to bring in specific items according to which House they are in – St Joseph’s and St Bernadette’s donated non-perishable food items, St Mary’s donated gifts for adults, St Monica’s were asked to provide toiletries, and St Patrick’s and St Peter’s donated gifts for children.

Boxes jam packed with Christmas puddings, tinned fruit , soaps and shampoos, toys, socks, glittery bags, savoury crackers and biscuits, pasta and sauces – to name a few – were collected by staff from the Mandurah St Vincent De Paul to be distributed to members of the community who are in need this Christmas.

“Thank you to all students and families who donated to the Vinnies Christmas Appeal,” said Mrs Susan Bentley, Director of Ministry. “The generosity of families has been inspirational!”

Meanwhile, the Year 10-12  Social Justice Team held a drive to collect used Christmas cards this term. The industrious group of students put their collective creative talents to good use each Friday lunchtime to recycle the pre-loved Christmas cards into beautiful new cards with assistance from staff members, Mrs Sarah Love and Mrs Sandra Guest. The cards will be delivered to St Vincent de Paul and Mum’s Cottage this week so they can be distributed to local families in need.
