On Wednesday, four of our Year 10 students from the winning Inter-School Makerstorm Hackathon team the “Tree Huggers” were fortunate enough to attend the West Tech Fest. Held in Perth, the team of Ryan Johnston, Zachary Prestianni, Emma Clulow and Keenan McBraida, made their way to the event thanks to sponsorship from the facilitator of the Makerstorm Hackathon – Jeremy Chetty from LaunchPad at Murdoch University. Also in attendance was their teammate Adrian Matthews from John Tonkin College.

The students were treated to an array of guest speakers including the US Governor General, Dan Larsen, Director of Software Engineering at GoPro, Gigi Brisson, CEO Ocean Elders, and Bill Tai Angel Investor & Founder ACTAI Global. The US speakers spoke about what they look for in an entrepreneur, investment opportunity, the importance of STEM education, what they have learnt from failure and success, and some lessons learnt.

What an amazing opportunity for our students!
