The Flores student/staff team depart for Flores on Patron’s Day- the last day of this term. The team has been very active with fundraising for the disadvantaged families for Flores, a remote Indonesian island populated with more than 99% of Catholics. We held a sausage sizzle last Friday and also at the Secondary School Athletics Carnival on Tuesday-providing us with much needed funds which will be used to enhance the sustainable access to fresh water, health and education facilities for Flores families. Sausage sizzles will be held every Friday this term, from May 17 and all profit will be donated directly to the disadvantaged and vulnerable members of the Flores communities.

Thank you to those families who donated used eye glasses. These will be sent to Flores next month and used by villagers whose eyesight is failing due to limited capacity to afford a healthy diet. Donations of eye glasses will be accepted till the end of Term 2 – please drop off at Student Reception.

The Flores student/staff team commenced a 10 week Pre-Travel Formation Course last Wednesday after school. The course includes seminar presentations and interactive activities pertaining to  International Development Principles and Catholic Social Teachings, which are the guiding principles that underpin the College’s International Immersion Program. The course will be held every Wednesday after school during Term 2 and offers students a solid preparation for an immersion experience in a majority world country.

Australian Catholic Youth Festival
The College will soon be seeking students who are interested in participating in the Australian Catholic Youth Festival to be held in Perth on the 8-10 December. Mrs Bentley will be organising this wonderful opportunity. Please see her to register your interest.

The Australian Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) is a national gathering of Catholic young people established by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference (ACBC). It exists to provide young people with opportunities to deepen their relationship with Jesus, be empowered to be disciples in the world today and encounter and celebrate the vitality of the Church in Australia

The Australian Catholic Youth Festival exists to:

  • Provide a high quality formative and experiential opportunity for young Catholics to encounter Jesus Christ, in the context of the Catholic Church in Australia
  • Listen to and discuss the issues and challenges in the lives of young Catholics in Australia
  • Evangelise young people and empower them to be evangelists
  • Provide young people with local examples and connections of vocations, social action, liturgy and prayer, catholic music and catechesis

Bunbury Diocese Safeguarding Program

The Catholic Diocese of Bunbury is committed to the fundamental belief that all children, young people and vulnerable individuals have the right to feel safe at all times.

The Safeguarding Office is working to establish safeguarding policies and protocols informed by the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards across all its parishes, including educating the Catholic community on child protection and the introduction of Safeguarding Officers.

Mandurah Catholic College will be working closely with our local parishes to help ensure that the necessary standards and protocols are developed within this program. Further information regarding the Safeguarding office can be found through this link.
