Staff Profile – Lillian DawePosted in College Community,Staff Profile on Friday, 3 May, 2019

Tell us about your family:
My husband, Patrick, and I have two sons who both attended MCC in Primary and Secondary. We have four grandkids, another on the way.

What about your education:
Life is an education. My professional schooling was so long ago I don’t think it would be relevant now.

Tell us about your history with MCC:
From the early days when my children started at MCC I would always volunteer as parent helper and was class coordinator a few times. I was a relief cleaner for the school on occasion and volunteered in the library which then led to a full time role. I have now been here for some 15 years.

What did you do before MCC?
Before joining MCC and before family I was a legal secretary. Working my way up from office junior to secretary. On moving down to Mandurah I had a similar role for another firm.

What do you in the community?
At the moment nothing. Previously I have coached tee ball for several years and, half a life-time ago, I was involved in a community service group called Rotaract.

Tell us about your passion:
My passion, hmmm. I love reading. Which you would think I would get to do a bit of, working in a library, but reading is the last thing you get to do – unless we’re reading to the students. If I am not reading I feel I am out of sorts. Even when I watch TV, I like to have a book on hand to switch to during the boring bits – which is often. Family would be another passion. Being a part of our grand kids growing and learning, get togethers, even catching up with extended family.

What are you listening to/ watching/ reading right now?
I am currently reading an Ian Rankin novel, Set in Darkness. One of his Inspector Rebus series. I will read just about anything to get my fix.

What is your greatest achievement?
Raising two wonderful boys and watching them as they grew into adults and starting their own families, and surviving it all.

What is the single most important thing you learnt at school?
That it is up to me. I am the one responsible for my learning. Teachers are there to help and instruct but I need to put in the effort.

What do you love about our College?
I do love the way our community bands together to help each other out. Whether a staff member, student or family in need. We all contribute however we can.

What are your plans for the future?
Eventual plans are to run away from home, do some caravanning and see more of Australia. We can only dream.

What is your favourite MCC memory and why?
A favourite memory is watching the children building friendships and accepting those with differences into their groups.

Sum up your life right now in five (5) words:
Busy, family, busy, work, busy.
