Under 16 Australian Junior Championships for Basketball, MCC RepresentativesPosted in Achievements,Sport on Wednesday, 21 August, 2019

Two Mandurah Catholic College girls represented WA in the Under 16 Australian Junior Championships for Basketball. Competing in Darwin over the last school holidays, Tori Ranson (Year 10) and Kaitlyn Srhoj (Year 8) were both selected in the team.

Tori talked about her excitement at being selected in the team, “I have been playing basketball since I was 5. It was so exciting to be selected for the team and to go to Darwin. I have been playing with the other girls in the team for a few years, so I knew them well. I got to hang out with the girls on and off the court, so that was a really good experience to get to know them better.”

Unfortunately for the girls, the team had multiple injury woes, and ended up finishing the competition with only 7 viable players. Despite this, the WA team finished 11 out of the 14 teams in the competition, a result Tori was happy with.

Next for Tori is trying out for the State team again, this time trying for the Under 18s State team as “one of the young ones.” Tori also Play for Mandurah Magic in the WABL. “We’re towards the end of the season, about to go into finals. We currently sit 4th on the ladder. Hopefully looking to get a spot in the grand final. We lost to the top team by 1, so looking to beat them in the finals.”

We wish Tori and Kaitlyn all the best for their futures in basketball.
